About The Book

al-Dawla al-Makkiyya bi-l-Madda al-Ghaybiyya is Imam Ahmad Rida Khan al-Barelawi's celebrated treatise on the Prophetic knowledge of the unseen ('ilm al-ghayb) — composed during the Imam's residence in Mecca during the Hajj of 1323 AH and presented to the gathered scholars there. The treatise is among the most influential works of the Barelvi tradition: it defends, against contemporary Deobandi and Wahhabi positions, the Sunni teaching that Allah granted the Prophet (peace be upon him) extensive knowledge of the ghayb beyond his ordinary contemporary experience — knowledge of past prophets, of future events, of the conditions of his community, and of the realities of the unseen world. Anchored in the Quran, the canonical hadith, and the explicit positions of the four imams.
