Abd Allah Ba Fadl al-Hadrami: Imam Abd Allah b. Abd al-Rahman Ba Fadl al-Hadrami rahimahullah (850-918 AH / 1446-1512 CE) was a Shafii jurist and scholar from the Hadramawt region of Yemen. His most enduring contribution to Islamic scholarship is al-Muqaddima al-Hadramiyya, a concise primer in Shafii fiqh that became the foundational teaching text of the Ba'Alawi scholarly tradition centered in Tarim, Hadramawt. Covering the five pillars in dense, memorizable prose - purification, prayer, zakat, fasting, and hajj - the text established itself as the entry-level matn for Shafii students in Hadramawt and across the Indian Ocean scholarly network for five centuries. Its influence is evidenced by the major commentaries it attracted: Ibn Hajar al-Haytami's al-Manhaj al-Qawim and Ba'shan's Bushra al-Karim, both canonical works in the Shafii tradition. Ba Fadl's primer remains in active circulation in traditional seminaries connected to the Hadhrami scholarly lineage.
