About The Book
al-Alfiyya fi al-Sira al-Nabawiyya is al-Hafiz Zayn al-Din al-Iraqi's celebrated versification of the Prophetic biography into one thousand lines of rajaz verse, sometimes circulated under the fuller title Nazm al-Durar al-Saniyya fi al-Siyar al-Zakiyya. The poem follows the canonical sira order — the noble lineage, the early life of the Prophet (peace be upon him), the call to prophecy, the Meccan and Medinan periods, the campaigns, and the closing illness and death — compressing each into terse, memorable couplets. It became the standard memorisation text on the sira for advanced students of hadith and the Prophetic sciences.
Like his more famous Alfiyyat al-Iraqi in hadith terminology, this work has generated its own commentary tradition; al-Sakhawi and al-Suyuti both wrote significant commentaries on it.

About the author
Zayn al-Din al-Iraqi: Al-Hafiz Zayn al-Din Abd al-Rahim b. al-Husayn al-Iraqi rahimahullah (725-806 AH / 1325-1404 CE) was the supreme hadith master of his age, widely recognized as the leading Shafii jurist and hadith scholar of late medieval Egypt. He served as chief judge (qadi) in Madina and subsequently in Egypt, bringing both judicial authority and scholarly distinction to those roles. His most celebrated student was the great hadith master Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, who transmitted much of his teacher's scholarship. Al-Iraqi's most famous prose contribution is his exhaustive source-verification (takhrij) of al-Ghazali's Ihya Ulum al-Din, tracing the chain of transmission for each hadith cited. In hadith sciences, his Alfiyya on mustalah al-hadith became the universal memorization matn, studied across the Islamic world from his era to the present day. Among his poetic works is the Alfiyyat al-Sira al-Nabawiyya, also called Nazm al-Durar al-Saniyya fi al-Sira al-Zakiyya, a thousand-verse rajaz poem traversing the prophetic biography from the noble lineage and early life through the Makkan and Madinan periods, the military expeditions, and the passing of the Prophet ﷺ, presented in dense verses suited to memorization.
