Manazil al-Sairin is Imam al-Harawi al-Ansari's classical exposition of the hundred stations of the spiritual path, grouped into ten ascending categories of ten stations each: the beginnings, the doors, the transactions, the manners, the foundational principles, the valleys, the states, the wilayas, the realities, and the goals. Each station receives a tight definitional paragraph and a three-grade exposition (for the general wayfarer, for the intermediate, and for the realised), compressing into a compact treatise what later works on the inner sciences would unfold across volumes.

The Manazil generated a long commentary tradition, foremost among them Ibn al-Qayyim's celebrated Madarij al-Salikin and the major Sufi commentary of al-Tilimsani. Read across the Sunni world from Khurasan to West Africa, it remains a central reference for serious study of the inner sciences.

Imam Abu Ismail Abd Allah b. Muhammad al-Ansari al-Harawi (396-481 AH / 1006-1089 CE) was a Hanbali jurist, hadith master, and Sufi shaykh of Herat. Combining strict Hanbali doctrinal commitment with a deep mystical sensibility, his Munajat (the celebrated Persian intimate prayers) and his Arabic Manazil remain his lasting legacy.

عن المؤلف

الإمام أبو إسماعيل عبد الله بن محمد الهروي الأنصاري (٣٩٦-٤٨١ هـ) فقيه حنبلي ومحدِّث وشيخ صوفي من هَراة. جمع بين صرامة العقيدة الحنبلية والذوق الصوفي، وله "المناجاة" الفارسيّة المشهورة و"منازل السائرين" العربيّة، وعلى الأخيرة بنى ابن القيّم كتابَه "مدارج السالكين".

al-Harawi al-Ansari: Imam Abu Ismail Abd Allah b. Muhammad al-Ansari al-Harawi rahimahullah (396-481 AH / 1006-1089 CE) was one of the great Hanbali scholars of the fifth Islamic century, combining mastery of fiqh and hadith with the highest ranks of the Sufi path. Born and based in Herat (present-day Afghanistan), he stood at the center of the Khurasani Sufi tradition while maintaining a firm commitment to Hanbali doctrine and Sunni orthodoxy. His Persian Munajat - intimate devotional prayers addressed directly to Allah - became among the most beloved texts of Islamic spirituality across the Persian-speaking world. His Arabic Manazil al-Sairin organizes one hundred stations of the spiritual path across ten ascending categories: Beginnings, Gates, Transactions, Character, Foundations, Valleys, States, Sainthood, Realities, and Ends - each station given a brief definition and three degrees (for the common, the intermediate, and the realized). The Manazil attracted the great commentary Madarij al-Salikin by Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, cementing its status as a canonical reference in the tradition.
