This book is a commentary of the invaluable advice of the Prophet (S) to 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas (Radiallahu Anhu), which begins with the words, ‘Be mindful of Allah and He will be mindful of you.’ The famed eighth-century traditionist Ibn Rajab al-Ḥanbalī takes the reader on a thought-provoking journey through the meanings that can be derived from the hadith, in a manner that is scholarly and comprehensive, yet also easily understood. 

He explains that the hadith ‘contains great counsel and comprehensive principles from the most important and most significant aspects of the religion’, such as the rights we owe Allah S.W.T and what He has promised to give us if we fulfil those rights. Ibn Rajab supports his arguments with verses of the Qur’an, additional narrations of the Prophet (S) (whose transmissions are analysed), sayings of the Companions (Radiallahu Anhum) and their followers, and insightful stories and poems. As a brief but expansive look at some of Islam’s fundamental tenets, it is an essential addition to every Muslim’s library.

About The Author

Imam ibn Rajab al-Hanbali was known as the leading scholar of his era, an eminent Quran master, a jurist of repute, a moving sermonizer, and a major historian. He was born in Baghdad in 1335. At the age of eight, he moved to Damascus along with his father. In Damascus, he began his religious studies, first memorizing the Quran in its variant canonical readings.

He then began the study of hadith, a pursuit that would take him to Makkah, Egypt, and other Islamic centers of learning. Ibn Rajab studied with the leading scholarly authorities of his day. He was especially influenced by the great Hanbali scholar, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, one of the most renowned names in Muslim history.
