About Author:
Peter Gould, is a Sydney native who was recently named 2011 Creative Artist of the Year at the 4th annual Muslim Achievement Awards in Australia. Peter is a graphic designer and digital artist who creates breathtaking artworks, such as my beloved “noor” painting. He also leads a successful commercial design studio, Creative Cubed, which serves international clients such as Yusuf Islam and Sami Yusuf, as well as multinational organizations like Sony, Colgate-Palmolive, Vodafone and McAfee. The beauty of Peter’s designs and artworks reflects his love of the faith that he chose to embrace about a decade ago.
Growing up, Peter didn’t really know nor care much about religion, until he met someone in high school. He became interested in that person’s life and faith, which led him to a journey of self-discovery. He began to learn about Islam, read the Qur’an and try fasting. Everything made sense to him. In 2002, at the age of 21, Peter took his shahadah during Ramadan.
So, about that person who sparked Peter’s interest in Islam: She became his wife two months after his proclamation of the shahadah. Peter Yaasiin Gould and Inshirah have now been married for nine years and are blessed with two lovely daughters, aged three and one.
Peter’s contemporary Islamic designs can be seen in a range of mediums. In recent years, Peter has designed his own clothing label, Artizaan, and worked on children’s art and book projects. One of his current projects is Kids of the Ummah, a colorful children’s book and mobile app that teaches kids a lesson in diversity while learning Arabic letters.
